A bag built to last – A success story of sustainability

Vancouver, BC, 4 January 2022 – The Bag Projects, a startup under incubation at Empowered Startups, launched its limited bag collection in late August and has a growing number of sales. The B.C based company aims to make sustainable high-quality bags more accessible, thus giving people an option to live up to their standards without compromising on style. Branding and positioning often increase prices within the luxury bag segment. These costs are exactly what The Bag Projects is keeping to a minimum in order to produce great quality at an affordable price.

“As a veteran of the sourcing industry, I felt that there were pages missing in the story. The main priorities in the industry are costs and profit margin, but I believe it’s time to rethink.” Herman Wong – CEO and Founder of The Bag Projects

But, what makes these bags sustainable?

Firstly, the brand has committed to source its leather only from tanneries that are accredited by the Leather Working Group, a non-profit organization responsible for the world’s leading environmental certification for the leather manufacturing industry. Secondly, all other raw materials are sourced responsibly such as BCI Organic Cotton that has been harvested in a sustainable way for people and the environment, and polyester that is recycled. Finally, All the bags are made to order in a BSCI certified factory by experienced craftspeople. Meaning that the brand will consistently avoid overstocking, and just use resources on demand. Additionally, it is fair to assume that people tend to keep quality bags that they love and cherish for a longer time. A bag built to last is an important factor in making this product even more sustainable.

The first collection launch is just the first step towards a bigger goal. Additional features will be launched in the near future. The Bag Project plans to add a design tool that enables customers and small labels to design bags according to their style and preferences. Finally, the brand is also working on a solution that allows customers to comprehend the pricing step by step by making the pricing and supply chain as transparent as possible.

“I believe that our customers have a right to know what’s behind the price tag. That’s why I would like to introduce the open costing concept” Herman Wong – CEO and Founder of The Bag Projects
