A group of highly motivated entrepreneurs from Spain recently crossed the border into Portugal to gain insight on the rapidly growing HQA® Visa Program. Their destination was Évora and, more specifically, the office of Empowered Startups, the Canadian multi-national that worked alongside the Portuguese Government to create what has become Europe’s best business immigration program.
The trip was organized by Extremadura Empresarial, which helps businesses grow in the Extremadura region, as part of a program that promotes entrepreneurship and collaboration between these neighbouring nations in Western Europe.
Welcoming World-Class Talent
Hosted by Empowered’s Manager of Operations in Portugal, Filipe Galego, the compelling session offered insight into how the HQA® Visa Program has allowed successful transnational entrepreneurs from around the world to expand their business interests in Portugal. The program’s success served as an example of how Spanish entrepreneurs might also extend their own business operations into Portugal as well as offering ideas as to how they might enhance their current operations in Spain.

HQA® Growing Quickly
Though only the 14th largest city in the country based on population, Évora was recently ranked 8th in Portugal when it comes to Startup activity. This is due in no small part to the growth of Empowered Startups’ HQA® Visa Program, which has facilitated the founding of nearly 100 startups based out of Évora through foreign direct investment.
Empowered Startups has facilitated nearly 6 million euros of foreign direct investment to Portuguese universities and polytechnics through the HQA® Visa Program. The company plans to scale such investment substantially in the near future after Empowered’s President, Chris Lennon, told Prime Minister Luís Montenegro he expects the program to deliver more than 50 million euros of foreign direct investment over the next three years.
